Boiler Cover FAQ’s

Cover providers or insurers often specify how old a boiler should be to qualify for cover. Many companies may not cover boilers older than seven to ten years. Even if you find one that accepts to protect old boilers, it can be difficult to get an insurer to cover a boiler that’s older than 15 years.

If the boiler in your home or property is very old, it may be time to get a new boiler installed rather than taking out a policy on an outdated boiler model. Investing in energyefficient models of new boilers can significantly reduce energy bills and minimize environmental impact. Additionally, these modern systems often come with advanced features that enhance performance and reliability. Upgrading now can lead to long-term savings and increased comfort in your living space.

New modern boilers are more energy-efficient, better for the environment, and break down less frequently, so you don’t need to take out an expensive policy.

A boiler cover insurance plan protects you from the stress of unexpected boiler repair costs. Typically, you will make small monthly payments to a company that provides boiler cover. This saves you the hassles of paying for call-outs or works performed by engineers, depending on the level of cover you choose.

Carrying out regular checks can also save you the headache of frequent boiler breakdowns and the need to pay for repairs. Read our guide to learn everything you need to know about getting a boiler cover plan.

Usually, boiler service visits take under an hour, however, the exact time will depend on the level of work involved. For example, if the engineer discovers faults with your boiler, the boiler service may take longer.

If you are happy with your central heating system and just want to ensure that you get an annual boiler service every year but don’t want to pay a lump sum every 12 months, you can break it down with a monthly boiler service plan. However, if you think that your pipework and radiators are starting to become untrustworthy, then we suggest that you consider our more complete cover which includes these parts.

On top you still get a free service with your boiler cover to ensure your boiler is running efficiently and working, as well as we remember and contact you to book a boiler service every year so you don’t have to. Whether you need a gas combi boiler service, system boiler or conventional boiler cover we can ensure that your requirements are met.

Depending on the level of cover you choose, you can get the following included with our options and don’t forget the all-important annual boiler service is included with all our cover plans: For those looking to keep their heating systems in top shape, it’s essential to follow boiler maintenance tips for homeowners. Regular checks can help identify issues before they become costly repairs, and ensuring your boiler is clean and well-maintained can improve its efficiency. Additionally, familiarizing yourself with common symptoms of boiler problems can help you take action promptly and avoid unnecessary breakdowns.

If you like peace of mind all year round and don’t want to worry about paying a lump sum for your boiler service every year then it is for you. One of the best reasons to get boiler cover is for the free service. Not only do you get your boiler serviced every year without fail, you also don’t have to remember, we will do it for you! Exploring boiler finance options for homeowners can ease the financial burden associated with unexpected repairs. These plans often provide flexibility in payment, allowing you to invest in your home without straining your budget. Additionally, many options include maintenance services that can enhance the longevity of your system.

If you are a tenant, your landlord should provide boiler cover if you rent. However, you might be able to get your own policy if your landlord allows it.

Boiler cover should be in place as soon as possible. Many providers have waiting periods that make it difficult to claim at the beginning of the policy. This is done to discourage people not taking out boiler cover during an emergency. We recommend that you get coverage as soon as possible unless you are willing to be without heat or hot water for a while.

If you own a home emergency cover, then although your boiler may be protected by the manufacturer’s warranty, the pipework and the rest of your central heating system aren’t.

You do not require boiler and central heating cover if you rent your house as this is up to your landlord to take out the landlord boiler cover. You should talk to your landlord about the terms of their landlord boiler coverage policy before you move in in case it is necessary.

Two types of coverage are available: boiler breakdown cover or full central heating cover. Boiler coverage, as you would expect, covers the boiler and its controls. Central heating breakdown cover protects all that is connected to the boiler, including radiators, plumbing, and other equipment.

There are many deals that include either one or both of these types of coverage. Compare to compare the best deals and choose the best cover for you.

Boiler cover plans ensure that you don’t have to pay out substantial lump sums in the event of a boiler breakdown. This makes them different to boiler insurance, where you would pay for the work yourself and then make a claim, which would then likely increase your monthly premium. Unlike the typical boiler insurance, your monthly payment doesn’t change if you make a claim with boiler cover.

On top of that, you don’t even have to worry about booking your annual boiler service cost too, as we will do it for you which is fantastic if you have taken advantage of our 12 year warranty for the price of 10. To ensure that your warranty is valid, manufacturers insist in their terms and conditions that you must get your boiler serviced every year by a Gas Safe registered heating engineer. This ensures that your boiler is looked after, prolongs its lifespan, and increases energy efficiency of your boiler.

If you have an older central heating system but are getting a new boiler, this is where our extended central heating cover comes in that takes care of everything outside your boiler such as external pipework, and radiators, as some older central heating systems can go pop when a brand new powerful boiler is installed.

Our complete cover also extends to the things that can go wrong and cost a fair penny such as electrics, drainage, roofing, lost keys, external controls like thermostats as well as partial funding towards a new replacement in the future when out of warranty.

Most boilers can be covered, including oil-powered, gas, combi and condensing boilers. You should check with us or the provider before you sign up for a policy if you are unsure whether we can offer protection on your boiler or central heating. This is especially true if your boiler is older than a few decades but usually we can be sure that we can include most gas boilers.

It can be difficult to get cover for older boilers or heating systems and if you are worried just give us a quick call so we can ensure that we can help. This is due to the fact that they may not meet certain requirements, such as emission and energy efficiency standards and general performance standards.

Although the premiums for older boilers may be higher than others, you might not be able to get any cheap boiler insurance or cover from some providers but at HomeKOG we aim to offer the same plans to everyone especially when it comes to central heating protection.

Should your boiler require any parts to be replaced, these will all be covered within your cover and when you get it serviced up to the specified amount in the terms and conditions. Anything that is considered part of the boiler is included in your cover, so new replacements for these parts shouldn’t be a problem, and you’ll have your boiler up to scratch in no time.

Flues are part of the boiler, so they are included in the cover when you get your boiler serviced. If there are any issues with your flue, you will be able to get it replaced with a new working one, with this being included in your boiler cover, so there are no extra charges to worry about.

A central heating pump is an external part of the boiler and is considered a part of the boiler, meaning that it is included in the cover provided. This is the case for any other components that are part of the boiler, so they can be replaced if yours is broken or damaged.

Radiators aren’t considered part of the boiler, so are not included in the basic boiler cover servicing. However, with different plans, you can get central heating cover which would include the servicing of your radiators.

Obviously, with there being more things to check on, the service will take longer but will make sure that everything included in the plan is working fine or will be replaced/repaired if necessary.

Although most companies don’t usually provide this information, many offer emergency callouts in certain circumstances. These include if your health is at risk or if your building becomes uninhabitable. Although most emergency callouts reach you within 24 hour, this can vary between providers.

If your boiler is in an unfeasible state, your provider might refuse to cover you. In this instance, you will need to purchase a new boiler, and then apply to be covered.

Many boiler cover or insurance providers offer a no-claims period varying from 14 days to 6 months. This is to stop people from taking out the boiler cover after the boiler has broken down. It can vary from one provider to another, but it could be anywhere between a few days and a whole month. At HomeKOG you can’t make a claim within the first 14 days of taking out your cover.

You don’t need to worry about boiler cover if you switch energy suppliers. They are both independent. This may not apply if your energy supplier has boiler cover. You should check with them to confirm.

If you decide to move house, then ensure that you let us know and we can make the necessary arrangements to ensure that you can continue your boiler cover at a different property.

Many people seem to think that they can claim on their home insurance whenever their boiler is damaged or has a breakdown. However, this isn’t the case which is why boiler cover is such a useful thing to have.

Any repairs or replacements for your boiler will come under boiler cover rather than home insurance, so it is important to make sure that you have cover so that you can save yourself money and not worry about any excessive, additional costs that you might have to pay if your boiler does breakdown.
